During the Corona Lockdown it can be quite boring to stay at home and look at your computer while working from home all day long. Something that can help is getting together with your roommates and play some card or board games. Here are some of my personal favorites that you can play to stay sane and entertained while being stuck at home.

Phase 10

Price: 11,99€

Players: 2-6

Age: 7+

Length: 45-240 minutes

Phase 10 is a great card game which is simple and easy to understand but still a lot of fun to play. The game is named after ten phases that a player must complete in order to win. Each round the players have a phase they need to complete. If they complete it, they get to the next phase in the next round. If not, they have to repeat the same phase again while another person already is in another phase. The winner is the person that completes the 10th phase first.

Skip Bo

Price: 9,99€

Players: 2-6

Age: 7+

Length: 30 minutes

Skip Bo is another simple and fast to learn (or easy to learn) card game for everyone from age 7. The goal is to drop the cards of your deck of cards as fast as possible in the order of 1 to 12. The Skip Bo cards are jokers and the little helpers of the game. Whoever can get rid of their cards first, wins.

Wizard

Price: 10,99€

Players: 3-6

Age: 10+

Length: 45 minutes

Wizard is a stitch game where each player has to guess on how many stitches, he is going to get in the round. If he is right, he gets points, if he guesses wrong, he loses points. The winner is the person who earns the most points by the end of the game (the number of rounds is based on how many players there are).

Dodelido

Price: 11,49€

Players: 2-6

Age: 8+

Length: 10-20 minutes

Dodelido is a reaction game for fast thinkers. The player whose turn it is places the top card from their hand on one of the three discard piles. He then has to call out the characteristic which is seen most frequently in the center: animal species, color, nought, or Dodelido. If a person makes a mistake, he has to take all the cards from the middle to his hand. The person who has no cards left wins. But be careful, it sounds easier as it is.

Ligretto

Price: 10,79€

Players: 2-4

Age: 8+

Length: 10 minutes

Ligretto is another game that requires good reaction skills. The task is to put your cards on different decks of cards from one to ten as fast as possible. Since every player plays at the same time, the game is very fast paced and offers a lot of adrenalin.

Exploding Kittens

Price: 17,95€

Players: 2-5

Age: 7+

Length: 15 minutes

Exploding Kittens is a cat card game version of Russian Roulette. Players take turns drawing cards until someone draws an exploding kitten which makes you lose the game. The deck is made up of cards that let you avoid exploding by peeking at cards before you draw, forcing your opponent to draw multiple cards, or shuffling the deck. Since the cards of the deck get fewer as the game continues, the chance to draw an exploding kitten becomes higher and it gets more and more intense with each card that is drawn from the deck.

The Settlers of Catan

Price: 24,99 €

Players: 3-4 (you can play it with 2 people as well, the rules are slightly different then)

Age: 10+

Length: 45-90 minutes

The Settlers of Catan is different from the games above, since it is a board game. The players in the game represent settlers who are establishing settlements on the island called Catan. Players build settlements, cities and roads to connect them as they settle the island. In the end the person who settles the island the fastest and reaches the goal of 10 points first, wins. This board game is a good combination of strategic behavior and luck.

Exit

Price: 12,99€

Players: 1-4

Age: 10+

Length: 45-90 minutes

The Exit game series is great for everyone who is a fan of escape rooms and solving little tasks and mysteries. Together with a little backstory the players try to escape from a situation of danger. This game is different from the others, since it is a cooperative game and all players try to solve the mystery together as a team.
