In germany we say: There is no bad weather, just bad clothing. But sometimes you just don’t want to get wet, right? Or maybe you don’t own rubber boots and a Raincoat yet (Pro-Tipp: Buy a raincoat! You won’t regret the purchase this autumn and winter). But anyways, here are my recommendations for indoor things to do in Kiel — The Arts & Culture Edition.

And if you would rather do something active, check out the Sports & Wellness Edition.

Paint your new favorite cup or teapot

In autumn and winter it’s very common in germany to drink tea. So why don’t you paint yout new favorite teapot? At „Keramik & Mosaik“ you can get really creative with paint. Afterwards the piece is glazed and fired by the store. This would also be a great christmas gift!

Costs: 15 – 40 €, depending on what you want to paint

What to wear: Not your favorite clothes (because of the paint)

Pro-Tipp: You should reserve a desk or you can take the ceramics and paint home — but for that you need two days in advance. So check your weather app and be ready to paint, whenever it starts raining.

Go Book Thriftshopping

New Books are expensive — so why don’t you buy some old ones? At the two „Antiquariat Lesart“ stores you can buy used books, movies and even vinyl records. Most of the books are in german, but they also have an english section. So just take a look.

Costs: Books start at around 1 €

What to wear: Whatever you feel comfortable with.

Pro-Tipp: Bring some paper money. They only accept cash, no card!

Go to the cinema — without knowing what movie you’ll watch

In Kiel we have some cinemas and of course you could always go there on a rainy day. But why don’t you try out the movie preview? The „Studio Filmtheater“ shows every wednesday a movie, that’s not in the cinema yet (or will never be). And yes, I admit it. I’ve seen some really really bad movies at the sneak. But hey, that’s also super funny. Me and my friends never talk about the deep french movie, that we’ve seen (even if it was great). But every few weeks we laugh about the horrible animation movie we watched until the end, while 50 other people left the room.

Costs: 6 € (Plus the popcorn is way cheaper than in other cinemas and they have a pretty bar, where you can get a gin tonic for around 7 €)

What to wear: Whatever you’re comfortable with. But be aware, that it gets pretty warm when the cinema is fully booked.

Pro-Tipp: At the beginning of the event you’ll get a small piece of paper. Keep it! There is a fun lottery before each movie. The paper is also used on the way out to give the movie a score. And if you buy a beer with a lid that pops open, it’s common to open it when the movie title appears on the screen.

Go indoor Minigolfing

Kiel has a few minigolf courses, but that isn’t funny if it’s raining. Fortunately, there is an indoor minigolf course in Götheborgring! It’s very colorful and has some funny 4-D-Special-Effects. There are 18 minigolf courses divided into different themed worlds. For example space, fairyland or jungle.

Costs: 12 € per Round

What to wear: Comfortable clothes and 3-D-Glasses (no worries, you’ll get them there)

Pro-Tipp: The opening hours can change. So go to the website and reserve a spot! And you need a 1 € coin for your locker.

As you can see, there are a lot of cool things to do in Kiel, even if it’s raining.

You can also check the „How to culture Kiel“ article, if you’re more interested in visiting museums — and most of them are actually for free! And if you would rather do something active, check out the Sports & Wellness Edition.
