Amazed by the concept I decided to try “Too Good To Go” myself. I ordered a surprise bag in the app and walked to the pick-up point. When I arrived, the bakery employee handed me a large bag that was filled to the top. I could hardly believe it when I got home: I got 9 rolls, 3 cakes and half a loaf of bread for only 4,50€!

The Too Good To Go” App

Using “Too Good To Go” is straightforward. Once you have downloaded the app and registered, you can search for stores and restaurants in your area that have leftover food. These are offered in the form of a “surprise bag”. They always contain fresh products that could no longer be sold at the end of the day. The bags usually cost a third of the normal price, usually between €3.50 and €6.50. Depending on the store, you get a mix of baked goods, fruits, vegetables and sometimes even hot meals. Occasionally you are able to choose a completely vegetarian or vegan option, too. Payment is made directly through the app via credit card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay. There is no option to pay with cash at pickup.

The idea behind “Too Good To Go

“Too Good To Go” was founded in Denmark in 2015 with the aim of enable everyone to save food from going to waste. The concept is simple: restaurants, cafés, bakeries and supermarkets offer surplus but still impeccable food at a reduced price via the app. Therefore you can save leftover food from the garbage for a small price, with the benefits of saving money, getting delicious food, and actively contributing to sustainability.

I tried “Too Good To Go” myself and I am really impressed. In this video you can see what I got in my very first surprise bag. Have fun watching!
