Every student has their own perfect study environment. Some people need complete silence, while others work better with coffee, background noise, and other students around them. HAW Kiel offers many different places to study, but some are definitely better than others.
To find the best study spots on campus, I visited five popular locations and rated them based on quietness, comfort, Wi-Fi, and access to power outlets.
5. Schwentine Mensa
Although the Schwentine Mensa is convenient between lectures, it is probably the least suitable place for serious studying. During lunch hours, the area becomes crowded and noisy, which makes it difficult to focus for a longer time.
Still, the Mensa can work for short study sessions or quick meetings with fellow students. The biggest advantage is the easy access to food and drinks.

4. Diner

However, it is still not the quietest environment. Background conversations and music can become distracting during busy hours. Even so, the comfortable seating and casual atmosphere make it a decent study option.

3. Bunker-D
Bunker-D has a completely different atmosphere compared to the modern study areas on campus. The building feels creative and informal, which gives it a unique character.
It is usually quieter than the Diner or Mensa, making it better for concentrated studying. On the other hand, the seating is not always ideal for long sessions, and finding a good workspace can sometimes be difficult.

2. C8 Study Area

Lerndock23 is clearly the best study spot at HAW Kiel. The building was designed specifically for studying, which becomes obvious as soon as you enter. There are quiet areas for focused work, comfortable seating, modern facilities, and enough space for both individual and group study sessions.
The atmosphere feels calm and productive, and the large number of power outlets and workspaces makes studying much easier. Compared to the other locations, Lerndock23 offers the best overall experience.

In addition, several group study rooms can be booked for collaborative work. These rooms provide a quieter and more organized environment for team projects, although access and booking options may vary between different faculties and campus buildings.
Taking everything into account, every study spot has its own advantages depending on personal preference and study style. However, Lerndock23 stands out as the most comfortable and productive place for students at HAW Kiel.
