Every year, students at HAW Kiel get to decide who represents them in the sudent parliament (StuPA) and in their department student council (FSV) and this year is no different. This year the election takes place on the third and fouth of June. On those days. from 9 am to 3pm, you can vote for your favoured representatives. But what exactly do the StuPa and FSV do?

The StuPa is the highest decision-making body of the student body at HAW Kiel. It decides how the AStA contribution is spent, elects the AStA board, and holds it accountable. They are controlling the budget and steering student representation at the institutional level. Your FSV, on the other hand, operates closer to your everyday university life. It represents students within your specific department, organises events, and supports you with study-related questions. Departmental councils are being elected across all eight faculties, from agriculture to business management.

Voting itself is straightforward. Head to your polling station on one of the election days, present your physical student ID (note that the digital student ID is not accepted) and mark your preferred candidates on both ballots. Then drop them into the ballot box.

Before election day, it is worth taking a few minutes to check who is running and what the candidates stand for. More information about the vote and the candidacies for the StuPa and each FSV are listed at wahlen.stupa-haw-kiel.de.

Hi! I'm currently in my sixth semester of Multimedia Production. I have a great passion for politics and the stories of people. With my work I want to give people a voice in the public sphere that are often overlooked or pushed towards the margins of our society, to tell stories you might not have known existed, but that are more relevant to your life than you'd expect at first sight.
