As the days draw near, excitement builds for the much-anticipated annual affair. Kieler Woche, a sailing regatta held in Kiel since the late 19th century, has earned its reputation as one of the world’s grandest sailing events.

Although the core event remains to be the regatta, Kiel is filled with many activities to keep you occupied and amused.

Countless amusements are situated down by the Fjord as it has been transformed into an amusement park with rides, concession stands and bright lights. Rides such as Ferris wheels, Carousels, Chair Swings and many more are available all week and the atmosphere of excitement at the official beginning of summer creates a buzz around the entire area.

The city centre has been transformed into an enormous market, with foods from all over Europe located in the Town Hall courtyard. A stage has also been erected here to entertain the foodies as they travel through Europe’s exquisite cuisine and beverage selections. 30 countries, 30 stands and 30 different types of food and drink all complimented by the multiple musical acts that change daily, what more could you want?

Both Andrea-Gayk Straße and Bootshafen are full of market stalls with a mixture of foods drinks and products like handmade jewellery and clothes. Lively music being played from stalls and speakers keep the lively vibe going as you browse through the sea of kiosks and watch the brave souls take on the humungous inflatable slide.

The same can be said for Schloss Garten as it is filled with food stalls and activities such as aerial optical courses, Bubble runs and Silent discos. I would highly recommend going here if you start to feel overwhelmed by the activities as there is an open space left in the park for people to sit and relax. This way you can chill out but still enjoy the festivities.

Nordmarkspoetfeld also has a lot of attractions. From market stalls filled with food and kiosks with accessories and toys, to vintage cars and motorcycles on display, and amusements for kids such as a small Ferris wheel and sand pit, this is the place to be. The main attraction of the field is the Hot air Balloon light show and the fireworks display takes place at sunset.

What are you waiting for??!! Get involved and have some fun at the Kieler Wolche today as festivities only last from the 17th till the 25th of June.
