The leaves are falling, coats are being dusted off and spekulatius-consumption is on the rise.
Winter is coming and is a special challenge for all of us this year. In order to get warm through the winter, we present five extraordinary sports in Kiel in this article. And don’t worry – all of them can also be done indoors.

1. Indoor Bouldering

Indoor bouldering activates the whole body. In contrast to the outdoor experience, indoor bouldering, as the name suggests, is practiced in a hall. A prefabricated route is climbed on several more or less steep artificial walls. There are different levels of difficulty, which are color-coded. Well, do you think you have it in you to master the black route? In any case, you will certainly get warm.

2. Futsal

Futsal is a type of indoor football but has a few special features. It is played with five players per team, with one player in goal. Unlike normal indoor football, there are no classic barriers. The playing field, however, is demarcated by lines familiar from handball. Victory or defeat is decided after two 20-minute periods. The classic rules apply: Whoever scores more goals wins.

Another special feature is that the ball may rest for a maximum of four seconds. This means that futsal is extremely fast and agile.

For all those who want to keep warm in winter, the South American sport can only be recommended. You can play Futsal for example at the CAU Kiel. Currently, there is unfortunately a waiting list, but perhaps you could ask or try next year.

Everyone knows darts, but did you know that the sport is currently all the rage? Whether in the bar next door, on the dartboard at home or professionally in a sports club – you can play darts anywhere with a wall. In Kiel, too, there are several places where you can improve your throwing technique. The advantage of the sport is that you can also do it alone. So grab your darts… get set…go!

4. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ)

Bonus points to who can spot me in this picture!

The name alone suggests that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is all about heat. Imported directly from sunny Brazil, this contact martial art is sure to warm you up. Mostly performed on the ground and very technique-heavy, BJJ can be seen as a kind of chess of martial arts. Levers, grips, and throws lead to close body contact. Strategy is essential. There are no punches, kicks, or other attacks. A premature “tap” on the body of the sparring partner minimises the risk of injury immensely.

By the way: a fight against an opponent is referred to as “rolling”.

Maybe we will see each other „rolling“ on the mat.

5. Quidditch

Am I dreaming? No… it must be real. The world-famous sport from the Harry Potter universe actually exists in our “muggle” world.

Magical Quidditch even exists here in Kiel. Unlike flying brooms, however, things are less whimsical here. With a staff clamped between your legs and a ball in your hand, you throw at various goals. The rules are relatively similar to those in the well-known Harry Potter world. It can also get pretty heated from time to time. So grab your broom and “Up”! By the way, in the winter you can even fly indoors.
